Fang Island - “Asunder”

Brand spanking new single from Fang Island’s eagerly anticipated sophomore album, Major (out 7/24 on Sargent House).

These guys bring non-stop energy to everything they do, and “Asunder” is no exception. Guitarist/vocalist, Jason Bartell, was recently quoted saying, “One of our core ideas has always been that our songs would be all of your favorite parts of the song that other bands make you wait 8 minutes to get to.

I’ll high-five to that.

Fang Island - “Davey Crockett” (Live at Amoeba Records LA)

Fang Island plays epic guitar rock… that’s pretty much a universal no-brainer. They also have the ability to build tension and draw out rock peaks like very few of their peers. I love how the triple guitar assault that dominates Fang Island’s sound is complemented with soaring choral harmonies and a shoegazing rock heart.

Opening runs for the Flaming Lips and Matt & Kim will only help spread the love that is FANG ISLAND. High-five to the band.

FANG ISLAND - “Careful Crossers” (video)

NO-BRAINER OF THE WEEK: Fang Island likes to FN have fun. The new video for “Careful Crossers” off Fang Island’s ridiculously awesome self-titled LP is just that. Full of silly string and flashing lights in a cramped little space with their friends, the band rocks out and parties down in the process. While the video is technically for the second track on the album, it does feature the tail end of the opening instrumental number “Dream of Dreams.”

Fang Island Live In-Studio

Brooklyn’s Fang Island stopped by the insound.com studios recently and dropped “Daisy,” “Davey Crockett,” and “Dream of Dreams.”  I had the pleasure of catching these guys at the Hawthorne Theater when they came through Portland on May 1st and flat out threw down.  Went to the show based their amazing self-titled debut LP (a record that has quickly become one of my favorites of 2010)… and left feeling that these guys are on the brink of something quite a bit bigger.

They describe their sound as “everyone high-fiving everyone” and I couldn’t agree more. Enjoy.
